This complete's my dealings with ancient Rome, what you find below is a hypathetical short story of mind, movie idea. Base around, sci-fi, ancient battle and modern day political issues: Other than that, it is what it is, but always from my mind - What If ?
All or any characters are of a serious nature and, none are of any real stance. The first few paragraphs are the original thought of that mind

"First we seal the fate of the Falklands, and wage war on Argentina, moving quickly through South America, seizing Mexcio, vital ports in Cabo are needed, moving swiftly into southern California setting up fortresses and structured education, eradicating all who come in our path" !

The year is June 2013, a call into whitehall reveals that 50 Roman Ships have appeared in Port Stanley all full of Roman Legions, the rest is the most devisiting ancient movie of the modern day !
No one was quite sure how and, where they came from, although some evidence of their footsteps in the America's had been suspected for some time. Scientists theorized the recent phasing in the upper atmosphere, a temporal time shift, or even the Bermuda triangle!
Whatever the reason they where the there and Whitehall had not received another call since the previous night. Recent stirrings with Argentine government had seen an end to pleasantries and, besides who would believe them!
Unknowing of modern technologies, protected by galvanized body armor, helmets and seemingly very quick to adapt, the worst now had to be feared, for as they approached the shores of Buenos Aries thousands where about hear their cry:

When they had started on their mission as far as they where aware they had now arrived, Their orders take all in your path, "For Rome".

Gladiator Meets King Kong !
We see them leaving the Azores, in the year AD 65.
They are speaking Latin which moulds into English. They are never once understanding of the other language spoken and swiftly take control 80,000 killed in one entire afternoon, women, children weeping in the arms of their fallen men!
DAY ONE (The Arrival)
"This city is strange general"...."Centurion, gather intel now, within count of Rome"
Quick to act, centurion gathers intel to confirm to our 16,000 general, we are out numbered in tally of the street, 200 to 1. "twice as many as Rome, this place is indeed very strange"!
Quickly they are approached by on lookers who clap in appreciation of their costumes, they are unresting and form rank.
Disoriented they march finding good ground near to a shore. Their Immediate impulse is not to fight as onlookers believe they are involved in some kind of festival
It is quickly noted how this strange looking race with statues high in the sky do not intervene or pose any immediate threat, marching in formation they find themselves on low flat ground, scouts have already been sent and returned, some to the ships, some further a field, by night fall they have settled in camp, in a place locals know as Reserva Ecologica Costenera, no loss of life an none yet taken.
Footnote:
As I stood in the bar tonight I observed how distant the room of around 100 where from the realities of invasion. They would have been as strange by the arrival of 16,000 warriors as too where the 16,000 themselves.
Questions at this point have already been asked. 120 scouts to each legion, are unaware of life other than they know it, so naturally remain as stealth as they can, having only knowledge of countering a major gale and surviving. Then reaching the shores of an island, the land mass was detailed with execution of a number of souls. Unable to find the Pole star to obtain a reading, strong gut feeling provides fortune as the unknown skies or the night had provided no ability to navigate, so the rise and fall of the sun in the west is taken and the ships head due north and west toward their original destination, with favorable winds and currents, they have arrived at place unlike they have ever seen before:
"Gentlemen, we are not lost, we have the sun to guide us, we have our rations, we have arms, we have come to seek out new life and Rome will make it's claim.
To point, through years of training and lack of modern day survival, the legions have found land mass, no interception and have already begun to observe the night sky:
This is not a drill, these men are here to claim on behalf of their orders and claim the lands for themselves. Upon any unwanted interception the legions have already dug in finding suitable ground, in knowledge they are outnumbered by mass, they have decisions to make and during their first night in the world of previous campaign, they have no reason to interact with any form of lesser people's regardless of potential failure. If must, they will die or perish only certain of years of campaigns won by shear tactile progression.
SUN RISE (DAY DAY).
120 Scouts have spent all night moving in 360 degrees of the chosen camp. Each reporting.
Road systems not of Roman construction, strange looking wooden guard posts, excess to the ocean, food providing game and currently no evidence of counter forces. The forested area provides adequate shelter and protection. "Then we wait, for they know we are here".
Working in teams a basic camp site has been marked out, they are currently Sparta and during the night all necessary provisions have been brought in from the ships. The area is extremely quiet and like in many other campaigns is rich with the sound of birds and hum of the undergrowth. The huge statues they see in the near distance, gave gasp throughout the legions, lighting up with fire at night.

Early reports of a large mass of men gathered and ships anchored of the beaches of the nearby nature reserve, first passed over have now given into local bewilderment.
The area frequented by joggers, people on bike's have reported extremely strange activity and scouts have reported by a growing amount of people gathered around the wooden barricades that wind around some the roads.
Cell phone footage of 50 old fashioned sailing ships has been placed on YouTube, and through word of mouth the world of the teenage internet has also triggered concern of the port authorities, who confirm the in private the findings are correct. People gathered on the beaches include a local news crew, officers of the law and members of the public, they are indeed as bewildered and un-nerved by the sight of the wooden ships as the Roman legions who are now dug in the forested area are of the land they have encountered.
Sightings of men by passers-by have also been reported. In general mainstream coverage, the matter has been watered down by the press, although reached the higher realms of authority, international phone calls of the incident have travelled much farther than Argentina and, once again, as bewildered as they are, Whitehall have reported in confidence the findings of The Falklands to the Argentine counter parts and, within those political circles, fears of some kind British counter strike has been considered, or possible action of refugee's. Either way, time is ticking and due to the vast spread of the country, some do not believe, some do not care, some have not see and soon some may even die!
*NOTES TO READER*
We clearly have the strangest incident ever recorded in man kind. Ancient and modern thinking, both placed in a moment of time, passive and aggressive, unyielding in their approach, the outcome is open to debate, for it is now in existence beyond that which we can control. What is a wildlife reserve to locals of Buenos Aries is merely a protected temporary fortress to the Roman Legions. The are better suited to this moment, have fear of placement which is being channelled into pure drive to survive, no surrender, this word does not even exist in their mind!
The downside of the modern world, wishing more an invasion of little green men and talk of how they ever got there, regardless of the outcome, will last the test of time and seal their fate forever.
"We don't want to go war" the youth have already started to talk, the politicians already in side lined conversations of argument, "We must not harm the nature reserve", "Lack of confidence and movement of ultimate power has already been felt by the Roman general, he can sense these people are weak of mind"
The ancient shots of the film are shot as they would be, the modern shots of this film are shot as WE would be.
If we take reference point of mind, Gladiator, fight scene's (Are you not entertained), District 19, and the recent adaptation of Planet of the Ape's, then we are somewhere.
This is not a Hollywood hills gang banging movie, this is thought provoking, life changing for all concerned. One can not wish away what has come to be. The young buck may say, "We'd send in the troops, well we've got guns, bombs, helicopters, planes, infrared. They would not last 5 minutes. Historians would be as astonished as the laymen, as too they where upon stumbling of Jurassic Park. The exploiter of life would wish to bargain, cut a deal, defile their way of life for profit.
But the Roman legions remain steadfast, are there and only have what they only know, all artisans, all skilled to elite status in combat, all with a engineers mind and all in knowledge, that most likely" They are already dead".
Meanwhile, the chat rooms, courts, side laws, by-laws, state laws, and federal laws are keeping them alive.

BREAKING WORLD NEWS. June 21st 2013
5 Local Sheep Farmers have been found Crusified near Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands. 10 other men are still missing feared dead.
THE NATURE RESERVE WAS BORN FROM THE LAND FILL DURING THE MAIN CONSTRUCTION OF THE CITY. TIME HAS PLACED THIS 16,000 WARRIORS THERE. SCOUTS HAVE ALSO REPORTED A STRANGE LOOKING ARENA.
By the end of Day one, all scouts have confirmed the parameter, It has been decided to maintain position and construction of a temporary fortress has already begun. "Perfect, we have the open sea and port. The ships are protected and the water is at our back.
Likewise due to growing concerns, the Buenos Aires officials, have in their mind sealed off the reserve, no one now is allowed to enter, a mistake they may not live to regret.

Further Notes for your mind:
Human nature beyond that of any other, plays the greatest tricks on itself: International lobbying for treaties on that which is considered sacred grounds provides modern day issues of it's own. Argentine understanding is that the British would only respond with conventional tactile. Although unbeknown to warriors who have arrived through portal of time, the outer conversations leads to historians who then have considered, the stories of Achilles and the Trojan horse. "Is it possible that we have been tricked through unconventional thought".
For me the story ends here, for you the reader or creatively inclined the saga now begins.
How does any government counter this! How does science explain this! What are the greater consequences! How many will yield! How Many will Die!
How are we human kind be changed! Is it possible that South America can fall to only 16,000!
And if they do Yield, what are the greater consequences to the remains of the 21st Century!

Things to bear in mind:
These men are pagan, Romans did not convert to Christian ways until 312 AD, they are from AD 65. They are therefor aware of Christ's existence. They speak latin. It is possible due to the origins of the Spanish Language some would understand. We must also surmise that, access to their ships would at some point be taken, through modern stealth, confirming they where in fact real. In a part of the world that has seen a history of Cu's and overthrown government, wealth and poverty, rich in natural resources and mindful of the rigors of modern life, all this in your plans of mind must be taken into account !
Other Notes:
The Romans continued the development of the Ballista, and it became a highly prized and valued weapon in the army of the Roman Empire.
6,000 slaves who were taken prisoner were crucified along the Appian Way (the main road into Rome). Their bodies were left to hang on the crosses for several months as a warning to other slaves who might consider the possibility of rebelling against their Roman masters.
Not all slaves were treated badly. The master of Terence an African slave, was so impressed with his intelligence that he educated him and then set him free. Later he became one of Rome's most important writers.
Some Romans believed that you would get more work out of slaves if you treated them well !
Historians have confirmed crucifixation took place upto AD 70!

It was used, just before the start of the Empire, by Julius Caesar during his conquest of Gaul and on both of his campaigns in subduing Britain. Both attempted invasions of Britain and the siege of Alesia are recorded in his own Commentarii (journal), The Gallic Wars (De Bello Gallico).
The first invasion of Britain took place in 55 BC, after a rapid and successful initial conquest of Gaul, in part as an exploratory expedition to see the land across the sea, and more practically to try to put an end to the reinforcements sent across by the native Britons to fight the Romans in Gaul.
